Zeitgeist or the Spirit of God - who is dominating your workplace?
A weekend for career starters and professionals as well as students close to finish and job seekers at Schloss Klaus.
Faith at your workplace? For many intrusive or alien. The secularisation is penetrating the workplace and society like never before. Are we pulling back in the light of this Zeitgeist? Or are we actively shaping our work environment through the help of the Holy Spirit?
The God@Work weekend offers inputs, seminars, workshops and opportunities for conversations with likeminded people. Moreover, we will have worship, prayer and encouragement.
We will continuously update this website with information about our speakers, seminars and workshops.
Claudia is working as scientific assistant in the area of practical theology since 2023 at the "Staatsunabhängige Theologischen Hochschule" (STH) Basel. She is teaching church pädagogics and is working on her dissertation with the topic "Christian adult education in a secular context". She is native German living in Bregenz and working in Switzerland. As such, she is enjoying the best of those three countries: pretzels from her bavarian origin, Läderach chocolate and punctual trains in Switzerland and Viennese coffee houses and the Bodensee.
Secularization means, amongst others, that it is normal to live as if God does not exist. Different expressions of religion have become more pluralistic, which comes with its own unique challenges. Religion is being privatized, pluralized, transformed, church as an institution has diminished relevance in our modern age and religion is declining alltogether. We are experiencing "de-churching", "de-christianization" and "de-religionization" in our surroundings. How is secularization impacting the worldview of us Christians? How do we live in these new circumstances? The sociologist Peter L. Berger has accurately noted:
„Regarding religion we are not so much living in an age of unbelief but in an age of doubt. Hence, dealing with doubt is an important task for individual believers as well as for religious institutions.“
If mankind should be transformed into the image of Christ, because he is God's image (Gen 1,27), this means that education cannot stop with religion classes in school but must be a livelong process. Humans are capable of learning and have a need for education. Our individuality, social behavior and creativity are God-given aspects of our human nature. How is a christian image of humanity shaping our understanding of education? Why are religion and faith foundational aspects - not optional ones? How to we reach a life competency that is spiritually informed, through education?
Heinz is living close to Graz, in the past with his family including three children and now with his wife. He was working as software developer for around 47 years in the area of newspapers, 30 years of which he was self-employed as chief execeutive and shareholder. Besides, he was in different leadership positions in Volksmission Graz for 25 years, until recently as church elder. No matter for what or whom he is working, it is his desire to face the challenge of modeling Christ's love in everyday life.
Time is often called a precious resource. Hence, time management is essential in order to take responsibility for this precious resource. We want to work out thoughts and suggestions to put into practice - be it in work life, in our personal environment or in our private life.
Hans-Peter is living with his wife Sophie in Corinthia and has four adult children and two grandchildren. He studied Theology and has been working for 33 years in Austria as a youth speaker, pastor and leadership developer. Besides work, Hans-Peter loves scooters, sailing and snowboarding.
Why is our personal time with God so important? How can I shape it in a way that it is truly becoming a source of strength? How can it become a place of meeting God? In order to prevent ourselves from being overwhelmed by the Zeitgeist we need time with the Holy Spirit.
Randy is a former archeologist, papyrologist and historian. Since more than 30 years he is studying the translation of manuscripts and educates people in various countries to become translators themselves. He is living in Lower Austria and has four adult children.
The individual scripts from the eyewitnesses of Jesus originate in a time that is very distant from our culture and world view. Do we understand them like readers from the ancient world? Do we apply it correctly in our daily routine, in our professional life, in our families and neighborhood?
Since 2010, the ÖSM has been offering an annual weekend retreat for students nearing graduation, graduates, young professionals, working professionals, and job seekers who want to be authentic Christians in their workplace.
